Become an Entrepreneur? Yes you can
So you’ve just lost your job like millions of others.
Or maybe you’re tired of working that job that sucks a little more of your soul every day.
You’re watching the job market and internet job boards.
You’re realizing that there just isn’t anything out there for you.
You’ve always aspired to be your own boss, start your own business.
Maybe you’re just starting out on your entrepreneurial journey.
That was me just 2 short years ago.
No matter what stage you’re at, i’ve been there.
I spent 13 years working in the print industry.
I had a good trade. I spent much of my time training people.
I was doing most of the organizational stuff.
The pay was good, the benefits were good, but I was still miserable.
There was no fulfillment. There was no excitement.
It was the same droned out, soul sucking experience day in and day out.
I once went so far as to formulate a mathematical equation that calculated how many weeks you would have to work at the company before it owned your entire soul.
These are called golden handcuffs.
The job feels too good to leave but destroys you while you stay.
I started working for the Canadian government at 16. Surely a job that would have me set for life right?
Not a chance.
Being an employee is not a bad thing. In fact, it’s what most people are cut out for.
For the rest of us however, we need something more.
We’re tired of colouring inside the lines, thinking inside the box.
We need to challenge the status quo, make a difference in the world, put a dent in the universe.
We long to leave a lasting legacy.
Where do I start?
Where the problem lies, is that we don’t know how to take the first step.
We feel stuck. We spend all our time searching.
We get stuck in the analysis paralysis stage.
We’re just looking for that one more piece of information.
We’re waiting for that one great piece of advice.
We’re waiting because it’s easier than proceeding.
We’re waiting because we’re afraid we won’t know what to do next.
I was there.
In fact, I waited over a year to proceed with this program because I was afraid.
I was waiting for the answers.
You know what I found?
The answers won’t come. You have to go get them.
I spent more than two years grinding away. Struggling to gain some traction.
I learned as I went. Finding that most of what I was learning was not helpful at all.
I took more steps that ended up going backward.
I failed over and over and over again.
Then I found some good mentors and my whole world changed.
I started making sales. I started landing clients. I started taking forward steps.
I stopped making mistakes that had already been made.
I started listening to the experience of others.
I let those words guide me.
Chris, I think that is a great price for this…just took a quick look through the worksheets and they look extremely helpful, especially for new business owners. I know for some of those worksheets I spent a long time searching on the internet for similar ones when I was starting, so not only are they a time saver, they are solid documents. - Jason
I think you have a great product here and I’ll be happily promoting it! Thanks for giving me the inside glance at everything, I’ve really enjoyed it!
So I thought about what they had taught me. I thought about what I had learned.
I thought about how I could use that information to help others.
I realized that the vast majority of us stumble on the first step.
We stop ourselves before we even get started because we don’t know where to begin.
So I went back and interviewed 15 entrepreneurs about their beginnings.
I got to the raw basics of starting an entrepreneurial journey.
I decided to seek out the finest counsel I could find.
- I interviewed Carol Roth. Author of the New York Times Best-selling book The Entrepreneur Equation.
- I talked to John Morgan. He has consulted for brands like Disney and Starbucks.
- I got to know Brad Gosse. SEO guru who has topped Google for some of the hardest keywords.
- My friend Justin Popovic, who wrote the Quit Your Job manual.
- Erica Ehm, founder of the Yummy Mummy club and former Muchmusic VJ.
As well as 10 others.
Phil Gerbyshak, Kat Gordon, Andrew Angus, Anastasia Valentine, Kate Buck Jr., Lindsay Brewda, Sarah Cook, Zoe Siskos, Christopher Bartlett, Chris Farias, and had Jason Dykstra interview me.
Listen to the first interview here.
What I identified was that there are a few common threads that run throughout these interviews.
These are the essential ingredients in being a successful entrepreneur.
But hearing stories is not enough.
You need a guide, a template.
So I included several forms, worksheets, programs, and templates to get you started.
I also added in some of my business philosophies that i’ve picked up.
They’ve helped me stay on the right path.
This doesn’t even take into consideration the value of my interviewees’ time.
The worksheets will help you determine your core values, mission statement, local marketing, getting your business online, etc.
These are all vital pieces of the entrepreneur puzzle.
This is the exact information I wish I had when I started out.

The law of diminishing intent. It happens to all of us. We get an idea. It makes us smile. It makes us feel invigorated. We feel inspired and we know there is no way it won’t work…………
That is, until, DOUBT sets in. Yep, that dirty word destroys inspiration quicker than you can blink an eye. One second you feel an idea is meant to be and just a few moments later your telling yourself every reason why it WON’T work. Ever happened to you?
Accountability. How often have you told yourself you would do something and then didn’t follow through because the only one you were accountable was yourself?
I want to help hold you accountable. I’ve learned that having an accountability partner is essential. Not just anyone though. Someone honest and understanding.
What i’ve also learned is that trying to do everything yourself is doing everything the hard way.
Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
It’s a sign of strength. A sign that you’re willing to do what it takes to make your business successful.
Going it alone may lead you the desired results. But in my experience it leads you to frustration, then it leads to seeking help and guidance.
Why not skip the frustration part altogether?
